The eroticism, spirituality, and resistance in black women's writingsConners are coming back – minus one.
After Roseanne Bar's racist tweet immediately resulted in ABC canceling the wildly popular revival, rumors about a spinoff show circulated.
Now, ABC has finally confirming that The Conners will premiere next fall, taking over the Tuesday 8 p.m. slot left open by Roseanne.
It will feature the entirety of the revival cast, aside from the very character who used to be the show's namesake. The current order calls for an initial ten-episode run.

"I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne," said Barr in a statement. "I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved” said Barr.
Said ABC in a press release, "The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago."
The premise for the spinoff is described as such: "After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before."
Presumably, this "sudden turn of events" won't bode well for the fictional character of Roseanne, who was last seen getting knee surgery.
In a joint statement from cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, they said:
“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”
Before the sudden cancelation, the Roseannerevival seemed like an unstoppable force, pulling in record-breaking viewership. According to Buzzfeed, the ad revenue lost by ABC due to the cancelation is estimated to have been somewhere around $100 million.
Hopefully, The Conners can demonstrate that you can have your shameless nostalgia grab -- sans the racism -- and still pull at the heartstrings (and wallets) of Americans.
