Imagine: You're on your first date, and for some reason you end up going to the theatre to watch Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. At some point during the movie, your date begins to text. And text.
What's the best way to respond without looking like a jerk yourself? (Hint: Not this.)
SEE ALSO: Give Trumpcare a break: Here are all the pre-existing conditions it will coverAccording to the Austin American-Statesman, Brandon Vezmar, 37, of Austin, is seeking $17.31 in compensation, which was the price of the movie ticket to a 3D showing, from a Round Rock woman he took on a date to Guardians. The woman committed the ignoble crime of "texting during a movie he liked."
"It was kind of a first date from hell," he said, explaining that the woman refused to stop messaging when challenged by Vezmar.
When he told her to text outside, Vezmar claims, the woman left the theatre and left him without a ride back home.
The woman, who asked not to be identified by name, defended herself saying she only texted two or three times. “I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody,” she said.
She later elaborated in a statement to the press.
"I did have a very brief date with Brandon, that I chose to end prematurely. His behavior made me extremely uncomfortable, and I felt I needed to remove myself from the situation for my own safety. He has escalated the situation far past what any mentally healthy person would."
As scant details of the story initially emerged, Twitter was divided, but mostly took his side.

Little attention was given to another aspect of the story: that a man was suing a woman for her failure to comply with his terms of the date. Vezmar rejected his date's complaint that he was harassing her. In fact, he later shared a screenshot of the messages he sent to her family members on Facebook. Vezmar claims he was simply trying to locate her address so he could sue her.
"I think that men are being exploited by people like the defendant," Vezmar complained to Texas Monthly, forgetting that every date is a gamble and paying for an overpriced movie ticket entitles you to exactly nothing. What a guy. What a weird, unfortunate story.
