Luke Skywalker is eroticness extreme eroticismfinally talking again ... and what he has to say might shock you.
The first Star Wars: The Last Jeditrailer finishes with a dramatic voiceover from Mark Hamill in character as Luke. "I only know one truth," he declares. "It's time for the Jedi to end."
Say what?
SEE ALSO: 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' teaser trailer is finally hereIf the point of that quote is to stun fans, well, mission accomplished.
The title of the next movie has long made it clear that the Jedi are this closeto disappearing altogether. But we'd always assumed the threat would come from a dark side villain.
Not from Luke Skywalker, our beloved hero. We're surprised and dismayed and above all, intrigued.
If we step back a bit, though, Luke's comment might kinda, sorta make sense.
After all, the Jedi have had a hand in unbalancing the Force more than once. Anakin Skywalker trained to become a Jedi before becoming Darth Vader. And decades later, his grandson, Ben Solo, followed in his footsteps to become Kylo Ren.
Maybe the thinking is that eliminating the Jedi might be the best way to restore the balance of the Force after all.
Or you know, maybe we're just reading way too much into this. Maybe the quote's being used out of context. Maybe it's not even in the movie – after all, half of the footage shown in the Rogue Onemarketing campaign was nowhere to be seen in the finished film.
But we can't stop thinking about it, and that's the point. Well played, Disney. Well played.
