LOS ANGELES -- Vine's death,Watch Carnal Sins (2001) full movie however inevitable it seemed, upset many digital influencers.

After all, earlier this week CBS's 60 Minutes featured "the influencers" aka some of the platform's biggest stars, many of whom live on the same floor in a building on Vine Street in Hollywood (yes, really). Many in the digital space considered that mainstream acknowledgement of Vine a milestone for the community as a whole.

"Vine was an art form," said filmmaker Jason Nash, who began his career making videos on Vine. "It's so crazy that Twitter is killing it. The numbers were there. There are still a lot of people who use it, and it's still pretty amazing. It really hurts to not have it anymore."

Nash, whose movie FML came out Oct. 11, has amassed 2.6 million followers and 1.6 billion Vine loops. Now, he is worried his following will just disappear.

"We have millions of followers on Vine, and they're just just going to erase it? Can they transfer some of those followers to Twitter? We worked so hard on that. It’s really, really shitty," Nash said. "I'm honestly surprised Vine couldn't get it together. I feel like there's so much they could have done -- they could have put [up] ads like YouTube or helped creators come up with some kind of brand system. But that didn't happen and now it's over."

He isn't alone in feeling disappointed. Thousands of fans including digital influencers, industry leaders and media members spent Thursday mourning the platform.

"The notion that the platform is 'dead' has been a pretty popular one for a while now, but it was still shocking to find out that Twitter was shutting it down for good," said Cody Ko, known for his #6secondauditions videos.

The Viner, who has 2.8 million followers on the platform, said he's been doing a lot more stand-up and acting. But without Vine, he plans on continuing to build his audience on YouTube.

Hayes Grier, who rose to fame on Vine alongside his brother Nash Grier, kept his thoughts brief.

The 16-year-old, who stars in Hulu and AwesomenessTV's Freakish, had in a way already moved on from Vine that gave him fame. He has a book and a new go90 docu-series, both coming out this month.

That's perhaps the bright side to Vine's decline: Many prominent social media users agree that there's some consolation in the many other platforms out there.

In fact, many familiar with Vine's situation have said its lack of growth stemmed from an inability to keep top creators happy. Publicists for many of these Vine creators had their talent shy away from the label "Vine star."

These creators have not openly ditched Vine, nor have they hated on it so as to avoid biting that hand that fed them. However, they havebeen going on the platform less and less and expanding their social footprints to YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook -- places that are either growing or lucrative.

Logan Paul is perhaps the most notable example. He is one of the handful who lives on the same floor as fellow Viners in Hollywood and frequently collaborates with them on short, comical videos. But his fame has skyrocketed.

In January, AdWeekfeatured the "hunky goofball" on its cover. Since then, he has starred in AwesomenessTV's Foursome and co-starred in YouTube Red and Legendary Digital's The Thinning. Next up: A show on Comcast's platform Watchable.

Paul has 8.7 million Vine followers,12 million Facebook followers, 6.3 million Instagram followers and a large YouTube and Snapchat presence.

Thomas Sanders, who won best Viner of the year at the 2016 Streamys, tweeted that he will be focus on bringing his comedy to his YouTube channel.

At the Streamys earlier this month, Sanders told Mashablebackstage that he loved Vine because it had "allowed him to set up a format" that his viewers love.

Still, he said: "I continue to make content on other platforms. But Vine is a wonderful place for me to start with my social media and branch outward from there."

Zach King, who recently competed on The Amazing Race,rose to fame thanks to his Vine videosbut has transitioned to more traditional media. On the day of Vine's death, news broke that King's debut novel My Magical Life had been optioned by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.

"I am sad to hear the news that Twitter is shutting down the app because it honestly did help boost my career," King said in a statement emailed to Mashable. "For some reason my videos in 6 second clips connected with millions of people rather quickly which gave me the opportunity to build a team of creatives around me."

"I tweeted earlier that it's a bittersweet day for me because for the last 3 years I have been creating 'Vine magic' and today we announced a partnership with Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment to create a feature film about the middle school version of Zach and his 'magic abilities,'" he said. "Truly grateful for the exposure and opportunities it gave me and my team."
